Abbott launches campaign,'Chakkar Ko Check Kar' focussing on Vertigo
Abbott, the global healthcare leader, launched its ‘Chakkar Ko Check Kar’ campaign in India to bring attention to Vertigo, a commonly overlooked balance disorder, affecting close to 70 million people in India. Vertigo, characterized by the sensation of spinning, can significantly impact daily life. Through this campaign, Abbott aims to help people take control of their health and better manage the condition.
As part of the campaign, Abbott conducted a survey in collaboration with IQVIA among 1,250 individuals in India to gain insights into the challenges faced by those living with vertigo. The findings in form of an infographic attached underscore the need for increased awareness and early diagnosis. This survey is one of the initiatives Abbott is driving to encourage meaningful conversations on vertigo as part of its ‘Chakkar Ko Check Kar’ campaign in India.
Taking this a step further, Abbott launched a digital campaign film, featuring Bollywood actor and UNICEF India Ambassador, Ayushmann Khurrana, who was diagnosed with vertigo in 2016 and highlights his personal journey navigating the condition. This offers a glimpse into the disorienting reality of vertigo and encourages people experiencing dizziness to take proactive measures to seek a diagnosis and care so that they can benefit from an enhanced quality of life.
Here are a few of the key survey findings:
- Personal Life: Vertigo doesn’t just cause spinning. It has significant impact on personal lives, with 34% cancelling important events, 33% experiencing frequent anger or annoyance, and 26% fearing damage to their relationships with family members.
- Triggers: The leading triggers of vertigo are anxiety or stress (39%), travelling (34%), and changes in weather (30%).
- Symptoms: Each vertigo episode can bring a range of symptoms, including headaches (52%), double vision (43%), a blackout feeling (40%), heaviness in the head (37%), and neck pain (28%).
- Family Life and Travel: Vertigo can affect patients’ abilities to look after their family (23%) and reduces family quality time (23%). It also creates discomfort when using public transport or air travel (19%)
As part of this awareness initiative, Abbott has also initiated an online assessment tool. This is a chatbot based survey, to help people identify vertigo symptoms and support early detection.
