Anil Kumar Lahoti elected chairman of SATRC
TRAI chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators' Council (SATRC). He was unanimously elected to the position, having served as the Vice Chairman of the Council prior to this role.
Lahoti's appointment was announced by TRAI during the ongoing 25th SATRC meeting in New Delhi, which is scheduled from November 11 to 13, 2024. The SATRC serves as a platform for telecommunication regulatory bodies across South Asia, where key issues surrounding telecommunications and ICT regulations are discussed and coordinated.
The SATRC comprises the heads of telecommunication regulatory authorities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. At the meeting, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Minister of State for Communications, delivered a special address focused on transformative advancements in South Asia's telecom sector. In addition, Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chairman of Bangladesh's Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), highlighted regional priorities for telecom development.
Lahoti, in his welcome address, reiterated India's commitment to furthering collaboration within the telecom sector and emphasized the importance of sharing regulatory experiences to foster growth across the region.
The SATRC meeting provides an important forum for regulatory bodies to work together on issues that shape the future of the telecommunications industry in South Asia.
