Anoushka Chauhan’s path from first job to big breaks

Actor Anoushka Chauhan, known for her role in Krishna Mohini on Colors, has had a diverse career journey before making it big in the acting world. From modeling to working as a marketing executive, Anoushka has explored various professions. But her very first paycheck came from a surprising source and left a lasting impact on her.

Anoushka shared, “My first job was actually in 4th grade. My dad asked me to clear out some junk from the house, which I sold to a kabadiwala for Rs. 70. I felt so accomplished, and from then on, it became a monthly task for me. I saved that money to buy craft supplies and gifts for my parents on special occasions, and sometimes even helped out my brother.”

She continued, “During the break after my 10th grade, I started a small dance and craft class in my garage, where I had a few students. The money I earned from that helped me join a swimming club and purchase some necessary items for home.”

As an adult, Anoushka’s first major job was as a model for a brand that discovered her during a pageant. Her debut shoot was featured in Femina magazine, and she was seen on hoardings across Ahmedabad. Her first acting role was a street play with the organization Chhap, for which she earned Rs. 2500. “I gave that money directly to my mom during the Diwali vacation,” she said.

Reflecting on her varied career, she noted, “I’ve worked as a stylist during college, assisted photographers, modeled, and worked as a marketing executive when I first moved to Mumbai.”

Anoushka’s marketing job provided her with financial stability, and despite her parents’ reservations, she sent money home. “That savings were crucial for me when I decided to pursue modeling and acting full-time. My first significant acting job was in an ad with Salman Khan, which opened my eyes to the potential of the ad industry as a viable career path.”

With the earnings from that ad, she invested in an acting class to learn the fundamentals of auditions, casting, and on-camera techniques. “This investment in my education was essential for my growth in the industry,” she explained.

Anoushka emphasized the importance of financial education from a young age. “I’ve always been mindful of dividing my income into savings, expenditures, and luxuries. Luxury for me means spending on my home, family, and travel, while expenditures cover my regular monthly costs. I also make sure to invest in my personal growth and give back to society through contributions to children’s education and women’s organizations.”

She acknowledged that many actors lack financial literacy but was fortunate to learn early on that there would be times of delay in payments and periods of no work. “My financial strategy allowed me to manage luxury expenses even when I wasn’t working, and it helped me sustain my career,” she concluded.
