Anupam Kher on why Chhota Bheem movie was a crash course in acting for him

Anupam Kher is part of upcoming film ‘Chhota Bheem: The Curse of Damyaan’. Two songs from the film – ‘Zara Muskara’ and ‘Jamboora’, sung by Shaan and Sukhwinder Singh, respectively – were launched recently. Anupam was present for the launch along with Shaan and Sukhwinder.

Anupam is playing a pivotal role in this film, and opening up about working with kids, he said, “To match up with their level of energy was very difficult. On the first day, I felt tired because of their questions, simplicity and to match up with their spontaneity. They are such wonderful children. One famous Hollywood director had once said ‘When children are in the frame, don’t act, because nobody is looking at you’. That is honestly because you can’t match the spontaneity of a child. This was a crash course in acting for me and a complete learning experience for me.”

He further added, “It is important to bring the child in your life that keeps you alive and young. They gave me love and I learnt a lot. We had fun. It was a great experience. Thanks to director Rajiv Chilaka and producer Megha Chilaka. I had a great time. We were shooting in Jodhpur in the hot weather, but the result is so colourful. We can learn so many things. I don’t want to go on a set as a person who knows everything. I go on a set as a person who is seeking something from everybody.”

Remembering his first role and completing 40 years in the industry on May 25, Anupam said, “My life’s first role was a monkey in the Hanuman army. I was in the fifth standard. After so many years, day before yesterday I completed 40 years in the industry. It felt like that time passed so quickly. For many years I have been working hard and now I am enjoying it. These years are just numbers. The best thing is acting doesn’t have any syllabus, at the age of 90 you can work.”

‘Jamboora’ song is picturised on Anupam, where he is seen shaking a leg on this number. The actor admits that he is not a great dancer, but had fun shooting for this number with kids.

The live action film, based on the animated TV series ‘Chhota Bheem’, is set to release on May 31.
