Art Director Omung Kumar opens up about Bigg Boss 17 grandeur set

The 17th season of Bigg Boss is back, hosted by the superstar Salman Khan. This year, the house of Bigg Boss is completely different from what we have seen for the past many years. Art Director Omung Kumar, who has also directed films like Mary Kom, Sarbjit, is responsible for this grandeur look of BB set. “Last year itself my wife Vanita and I have decided that we will do different stuff for the 17th edition of Big Boss. We started by thinking of places we'd like to visit, our favourite is Europe so we tried to deliver the European gothic look in the Bigg Boss house. In the main living room, you get the vibes of an European street and the kitchen is almost like a cafeteria. When we went to the Bigg Boss creative team, they also liked our idea. They suggested if we can have different rooms with different themes. We have created a brown, white and dark zone. Usually, it used to be 12-15 ft and then there is the roof. But this time we removed the roof and it became like a double storey house. There were so many details to take care of. This year we have few additions to the house as well like the archive room, and the therapy room. The contestants need to earn their right to go there. There are 110 cameras and in future there will be some more additions. We wanted to create the set like a story book which has castles, trees, buildings, lanes and we made it huge. The creative and our concept just came together.”

So what kind of feedback does Salman Khan give him every year? Omung says,”Every year he will ask me how we are going to surprise everyone. From where he stands and observes the house, he can actually watch the whole house. I am hoping this time he is going to like it a lot as we have brought a film-land into Bigg Boss set.” 

Omung who has been in the business for so long feels he has to outdone himself every time he is creating something new. He says,”When people called and asked me from where I got a particular lamp shade or when we have started painting bougainvillea, people used to surprise a lot. A smile with a surprise expression on a face gives me a lot of satisfaction.

Bigg Boss 17 is all set to premiere on October 15 on Colors, it is going to see many interesting faces. One of the most controversial reality show will be based on the theme of ‘Dil, Dimaag aur Dum’ this time.
