Bad Newz: Triptii Dimri Dazzles in a Bold and Captivating Role

Looking at Triptii Dimri in this movie, I couldn't help recall the '80s sensation Mandakini. She too became the national crush (though that term wasn't even coined then) after Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985) and all her subsequent films featured her in a revealing avatar with scant regard for acting or scene relevance.

Dimri, whose bold makeover in Animal (2023) elevated her to become the present national crush, undergoes a similar predicament. Bad Newz has her in the focal role but the film doesn't go beyond exploring her sex appeal.

Of course, Triptii plays the heroine, who is impregnated concurrently by two of her suitors : ex-hubby (Vicky Kaushal) and flirty shirty boss (Ammy Virk). Both these Punjabi dudes look and talk alike, which makes their characters monotonous and irritating beyond a point...

Worse, the second half in which these to-be fathers try to woo the pregger Dimri appears overly stretched and pointless to a fault. The humour falls flat and hardly evokes any laughter. Vicky and Ammy fall short of expectations and the rest of the cast including Sheeba Chaddha and Neha Dhupia, are strictly okey dokey.

Eventually, Bad Newz remains a Triptii Dimri starrer but doesn't give her much scope beyond the avoidable skin exposure. It is just about an average fare. Vicky Kaushal can do much better than this. And Dimri might well be our modern day Mandakini!!
