Barun Das showcases Bengal’s global promise at Nakshatra Samman 2024
TV9 Bangla hosted the second edition of its prestigious Nakshatra Samman, themed “Manusher Pashe” (With the People), celebrating individuals who have made remarkable contributions to society, in the spirit of the legendary writer and activist Mahasweta Devi.
Held in Kolkata, the event was curated under the leadership of Barun Das, MD of TV9 Network, who emphasized Bengal’s extraordinary potential for global leadership.
This year, six individuals were honoured for their achievements across diverse fields including sports, theatre, medical research, historical studies, and humanitarian service. The event also recognized unsung heroes whose grassroots efforts have uplifted communities across Bengal.
Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly received the “Prothom Theke Prothome” award for his pioneering leadership and enduring impact on Indian cricket. Theatre veteran Rudraprasad Sengupta was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his monumental contributions to Bengal’s theatre.
Other awardees included:
• Dr. Asima Mukherjee, for groundbreaking cancer research
• Bahata Anshumali, for significant strides in decoding the Indus Valley script
• Subhashish Ganguly, for his innovative work directing visually impaired theatre artists
• Dr. Arup Roy, for his dedication to educating marginalized children
TV9 Bangla also honoured five grassroots changemakers:
• Dukhu Majhi, Padma Shri awardee and environmental activist combating deforestation in Purulia
• Reba Murmu, who built schools for underprivileged children in Bankura’s Santhal communities
• Prabir Pal, a specially challenged educator, inspiring young minds.
• Saju Talukdar, who has built and offered shelters to the homeless.
