BharatMatrimony faces backlash for using married woman's photo in profile
BharatMatrimony is facing criticism after a married woman's photo appeared in a fake profile on its elite subscription service. Swati Mukund, who clarified that she didn’t meet her husband through a matrimonial app, warned users of what she called the “BharatMatrimony Scam” and advised caution when using the platform.
“More acrimony than matrimony, I guess!” she wrote, sharing a video in which her husband appears at the start to ensure their photo isn’t misused to imply they met through the app. She tagged BharatMatrimony on Instagram.
The video begins with Mukund stating, “This is a post about India’s number one and supposedly most trusted matrimonial app, BharatMatrimony.” A screenshot from the app appears, showing her photo alongside the label “BharatMatrimony Scam.”
Mukund then points to the man sitting behind her and says, “As you can see, the picture used is of me, and for the record, this is my husband. No, I didn’t find him on any of these apps.”
Expressing her disbelief, she adds, “What truly shocked me is that this is BharatMatrimony’s elite subscription service, where they charge a hefty fee and claim to carefully screen and curate profiles to help users find their ideal partner.”
She questions, “How on earth are you doing it?”
Closing the video, Mukund warns users, “Clearly, it’s not working. This is a reminder to all users on this platform to exercise caution before trusting any of these apps, because what you see isn’t always what you get.”
