Bhuvnesh Kumar appointed as UIDAI CEO
Bhuvnesh Kumar, currently Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) with responsibility for cyber laws and matters related to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), has been appointed as the CEO of UIDAI. This was announced by the Ministry on Wednesday. Notably, Kumar will continue to serve in both roles.
A 1995-batch IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Kumar is a graduate of the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra.1 He succeeds Amit Agrawal, who was appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Pharmaceuticals in December.
UIDAI, a statutory authority under MeitY, is responsible for issuing Aadhaar numbers and managing the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR).2 The CIDR is a centralized database that stores demographic and biometric information of individuals who have been issued an Aadhaar number.
