Bloody Ishq: A CGI Catastrophe with Dated Plot and Lackluster Performances

That could have well been the title of this latest Vikram Bhatt horror flick, which premiered directly on Disney Hotstar this week.

The basic plot is borrowed zillionth time from Bhatt's own Raaz (2002), which was a box office money-spinner two decades ago. In 2024, the same appears as dated as Windows 95 operating system. There is also an unnecessary incestuous angle thrown in.

Absolutely devoid of genuine scare or thrill element, Bloody Ishq also inflicts on you the most horrible CGI effects ever seen in Bollywood. In fact, the entire haunted castle where the lead couple (Avika- Vardhaan) encounter the paranormal, appears totally fake and a comic book spread-out. As for the CGI generated bhoot, it is the second most laughable creation after the Tabu starrer Hawa (2003).

Of the cast, Avika Gor tries hard but cannot rise above the insipid script. Vardhaan Puri hams it up in most of the scenes. He was significantly better in his debut Yeh Saali Aashiqui (2019). Finally, the scene stealer turns out to be Jeniffer Piccinato, who plays the seductress turned spirit to perfection. She leaves a mighty impression in her small role.

Heading straight to the OTT, Bloody Ishq had no chance in theatres. The business savvy Bhatts have obviously realised it much before their audience. Hence, the quiet online release!!
