Bombay DC gifts India its own design system

In an effort to streamline and standardize visual communication across the country, Bombay Design Centre Bombay DC is making a big splash with their recently launched India Design System, an open-source treasure trove of freely downloadable public logos and signages. Since its launch, the platform has witnessed over 200,000 downloads and 500,000 page visits, reflecting its significant impact.

With over 2 lakh downloads and 5 lakh page visits already, the initiative's impact is undeniable.

Why the consistency craving?

Imagine driving through India and noticing that the right arrow traffic sign looks different in every state, or spotting an Aadhaar logo that's been stretched out of proportion. These inconsistencies point to a larger issue in India's public services and social infrastructure: the lack of a uniform visual design language. Recognizing this gap, Bombay Design Centre introduced the India Design System to foster consistency and professionalism in public design.

The India Design System aims to provide an exhaustive catalogue of government logos, common public symbols, hospital signages, school signages, industrial signages, and traffic signs. All these resources are available for free download, making it easier for individuals and organizations to access and use them.

A One-Stop Shop for Visual Identity

Accessible online, the India Design System offers users the ability to download logos and signages in various formats, including PNG, Vector, and JPG, and in both black & white and colored versions. This ensures that the resources are versatile and can be utilized across different mediums and platforms.

Ankur Rander, CEO of Bombay Design Centre, emphasizes the importance of this initiative: "We understand that signs in public spaces and government logos are a key representation of the country’s design capabilities and form a large part of any country's aesthetic. Our vision with the India Design System is to to standardize the usage and representation of these important symbols across the country in print, online, and on the ground. This is a growing catalogue. The first set of identities that are available to download are common public & government program logos. As the project progresses, the plan is to launch new collections like school signages, hospital signages, road safety signages, and so on.”
The India Design System is poised to revolutionize how public design is approached in India, offering a cohesive and professional aesthetic that reflects the nation's identity and enhances the functionality of public spaces."
