COLORS explores the sweet-n-sour relationship of saas-bahus with

Kairi is a take on the sweet and sour moments of life that a family goes through. It’s a journey of Imarti Devi who from a single mother has become one of the most authoritative members of the family and her hold on her bahus. The story will revolve around the lives of the sweet tyrant mother-in-law – Imarti Devi, her daughter-in-law - Ambi’s struggle, and her son Anuj who’s living an indifferent life in the midst of the son/husband dilemma. The show emphasizes on what transpires in a household when two strong and contrasting personalities like the sharp Imarti Devi and loving-yet-rebellious Ambi clash under the same roof. Will Ambi sccumb to Imarti’s 'tanna shai' like the other two daugther in laws OR Imarti Devi be dethroned once she meets her match in Ambi? Aakhir 100 din saas ke toh ek din bahu ka bhi ho sakta hai kya? Get ready to witness the meethi taana-shai between the saas-bahu in Kairi – Rishta Khatta Meetha starting April 2nd, Monday to Friday at 7 PM only on COLORS.

Speaking about the concept of the show, Prashaant Bhatt, Fiction Head of COLORS said, “The storyline of Kairi is different in its presentation and characterization. The show is not only a take on the sweet and sour banter between the saas and bahu, but also about the dilemma of the son stuck in the midst of it all.  The two lead characters of the show, Imarti Devi and Ambi have names that are a total contrast to their personalities which in turn leads to some interesting slice of life moments that will resonate with the audiences. By introducing Kairi in the 7.00 pm time band, we are now providing differentiated content to our viewers in all time slots thereby satiating their need for distinctive entertainment options.”

Set in Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh), Kairi – Rishta Khatta Meetha is the story of a sweet tyrant saas, Imarti Devi, and her loving-yet-rebellious bahu, Ambi. While Imarti Devi is the typical Indian mother-in-law who wants the best for her sons and maintains a tight hold on her daughters-in-law, Ambi is the swabhimani daughter in law who refuses to be a bechari even as she maintains respect for her mother-in-law even in the midst of an argument. Stuck in the midst of all this is Anuj, the dutiful son who remains indifferent to the quarrels between the women in his life as he grapples to deal with his mother’s decision to choose his bride.

Speaking further about the show, Shashi Mittal and Sumeet Mittal of Shashi-Sumeet Productions said, “Kairi is a light-hearted take on the sweet and sour relationship shared by a saas and her bahu. While discussing the concept of the show and the script, our main aim was to ensure that the lead characters created interesting moments that would connect with the viewer. Audiences can be rest assured that Kairi will move beyond conventional saas-bahu dramas as the relationship between a saas, her bahu and their common love – the son, is explored in deep.”

Kairi – Rishta Khatta Meetha, not only has an interesting taana-shai inducing storyline, but also an exciting cast that brings to life these quirky moments. While Hema Singh plays the role of Imarti Devi – the possessive mother-in-law, Preeti Chaudhary steps in as the swabhimani bahu, Ambi. Jay Bhanushali supports the leading ladies as he effortlessly essays the role of Anuj, the son caught in the midst of the crossfire between his mother and wife.
