Criminal suit filed by BharatPe against Ashneer Grover and family
A criminal suit has been filed by BharatPe, the fintech unicorn, against its former co-founder and MD Ashneer Grover and his family, asking for up to Rs 88.67 crore for supposed damages caused by alleged misappropriation of funds and cheating.
In the suit that runs into 2800 pages, it is alleged that Grover, his wife Madhuri Jain, as well as other family members, have created bills which were fake, recruited fabricated vendors in order to offer services to the company, and also charged extra to the company for recruitment. The criminal complaint and civil suit appeared before the Delhi High Court, which issued notices to the Grover family, asking them to give a response within two weeks. January 9 is the next hearing date.
In case of being found guilty, they could be imprisoned for up to 10 years. Earlier this year, accusations were made against Grover for the use of inappropriate language, threatening a Kotak Group employee, for the failure to secure funding and an allotment for the Nyaka IPO for himself, and Madhuri Jain.
Thereafter, Marsal and Alvarez, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas and PwC, were appointed in order to conduct a corporate governance review and determining whether deliberate misconduct was committed by Grover.
