CTRL: Vikramaditya Motwane's thrilling exploration of AI's dark side

Exposing the dark side of AI and social media, Vikramaditya Motwane's direct to Netflix release CTRL (keyboard abbreviation of control) is an engaging watch clocking in just one and half hours of runtime and keeping you hooked to the crumbling digital world of its protagonist Nella (Ananya Panday).

After the social media influencer Nella breaks up with her bf Joe (Vihaan), she turns to an AI  enabled app called CTRL, which starts off by deleting the digital footprint of Joe from her archives. Not long before the sweet talking Ranveer Singh resembling AI avatar takes control of her entire life...

The erasing of a person's memory might ring a bell with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) but nah, CTRL isn't that film!! Nella is basically clearing her social media existence of Joe but in the bargain, loses her privacy as well as personal data to the app and the world, at large.

Ananya Panday is perfectly cast as Nella. It's a character up her sleeve and she nails it jolly good. Aparshakti Khurana as the voice of the AI avatar Allen, registers the right impact. The rest of the cast are adequate enough!!

Uniquely presented in form of an actual computer environment feel, CTRL is a must-see for gen zee, who are the biggest consumers of social media. The film cleverly highlights the data privacy issues, deep fake videos and the other evils of the internet, which has turned its consumer in to a commodity himself. We are compelled to accept the terms and conditions. No other option. After all, thats the new world we live in...
