A Technological Leap: Innovations Driving the Maha Kumbh 2025

“The government has made significant investments in the Kumbh Mela App, which offers numerous features. It is regularly updated and ensures greater transparency. This app assists attendees in navigating the Kumbh Mela efficiently. Additionally, the entire tendering and partner selection process has been digitized, and the government has structured the CSR process digitally, including the implementation of an AI-based lost and found centre. There is a strong digital push by the government to promote tourism and attract visitors from across the globe. Vritti is the exclusive advertising partner for LED screens. We have deployed 25 LED vans across 25 sectors of the Kumbh. Our strategy ensures these vans move with the crowd to maximize visibility and brand impact,” said Rajesh Radhakrishnan, Co-Founder & CMO, Vritti Mindwave Media.

Global Digital Appeal

People from 183 countries are actively seeking information about the Maha Kumbh through various websites and portals, according to the Uttar Pradesh government. The official website of Maha Kumbh (https://kumbh.gov.in/), launched on October 6, 2024, has emerged as the primary source for reliable information, witnessing significant traffic from millions of users worldwide.

As of January 4, 2025, data from the website reveals that over 33 lakh visitors from 183 countries accessed the portal to gather details about Maha Kumbh. This includes visitors from Europe, America, and Africa, showcasing the event's global appeal.

For the first time, Google Maps will offer dedicated navigation services specifically tailored for Mahakumbh Nagar. This groundbreaking partnership between Google and the Mahakumbh Mela Authority will enable pilgrims to easily locate ghats, temples, and key event sites, significantly enhancing crowd management.

AI-Powered Surveillance and Security

To manage the colossal influx of visitors, the Mela will deploy 328 AI-enabled cameras equipped with facial recognition technology, ensuring round-the-clock surveillance. These cameras will play a vital role in reuniting lost persons with their families through a centralized Digital Lost and Found Centre, integrating social media platforms for faster communication.

Immersive Virtual Reality Experiences

360-degree virtual reality (VR) stalls will be set up at prime locations, offering immersive views of key rituals such as the Peshwai procession, Ganga Aarti, and sacred bathing ceremonies. This initiative aims to deepen the connection between spirituality and technology.

Spectacular Drone Shows

A fleet of 2,000 drones will narrate legendary tales such as Prayag Mahatmyam and Samudra Manthan, creating mesmerizing visual spectacles over the Sangam Nose. These shows will illuminate the night sky, blending ancient storytelling with modern technology.

Robust Cybersecurity Measures

The Uttar Pradesh government has established a Maha Kumbh Cyber Police Station and deployed 56 cybersecurity experts for continuous monitoring. A dedicated helpline number (1920) and 40 Variable Messaging Displays (VMDs) have been introduced to prevent cyber threats, fake links, and misinformation.

Digital Land Allotment and Infrastructure Management

Land allotments for over 10,000 institutions have been digitized, utilizing GIS-based maps and drone surveys. This transparent system minimizes physical appointments and ensures efficient resource allocation.
