Disney+ Hotstar to experiment with daily episodes for ‘Commander Karan Saxena’

‘Commander Karan Saxena’, a new action thriller featuring Gurmeet Chodhary, Iqbal Khan and Hruta Durgule, is set to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on July 8. The show revolves around a mission of a RAW agent.

In the show, Gurmeet, who is going to be seen on the screen after quite some time, is playing the role of Commander Karan. Iqbal, who too will be seen on the screen after a gap, is essaying a negative role, that of ISI agent Nasir, who, according to Iqbal, is quite real and larger than life. Hruta, who is a known name in Marathi film and TV industry, is making her debut in a Hindi OTT series with ‘Commander Karan Saxena’. So far, she has portrayed soft but strong roles, however here she will be seen as an officer.

The interesting strategy that the makers and the platform has adopted is that the show will have new episodes every day from Monday to Friday, just like the daily shows on television, with each episode ending on a thrilling note. Earlier, too, Disney+ Hotstar had experimented with their show ‘Lootere’, which was made by Hansal Mehta and Shaailesh R Singh and directed by Jai Mehta, by releasing fresh episodes every week on Fridays. This formula has worked well with audiences in the West and it has worked here as well. Dharma Production’s series, ‘Showtime’, featuring Emraan Hashmi, Rajeev Khandelwal, Naseeruddin Shah, Mouni Roy and others was also another show which had premiered on March 8 with four episodes, and is now releasing the rest of the four episodes on July 12.

‘Commander Karan Saxena’ is directed by Jatin Wagle and is based on writer Amit Khan’s book of the same name.
