Dow Jones and NY Post sue Perplexity AI over alleged content theft
Rupert Murdoch's Dow Jones and New York Post have sued Perplexity AI, accusing the artificial intelligence firm of "extensive unlawful copying" of their protected content as per Reuters. The lawsuit represents another chapter in the ongoing conflict between media outlets and tech companies over the unauthorized use of copyrighted materials to develop AI technologies.
The filing, made in the Southern District of New York by Dow Jones, the parent company of the Wall Street Journal, and the NY Post, alleges that Perplexity is unfairly competing for readers by exploiting the publishers' valuable content without permission.
Perplexity AI is one of the emerging startups challenging Google's dominance in the search engine market. It gathers data from websites it considers reliable and offers summaries within its own platform.
