eBay (India) to roll out marketplace for mobile phones
eBay (India), plans to have a marketplace platform for mobile phones. In fact, the company is in conversation with ' telcos and handset vendors. Once the 3G services come to India, they will roll out this venture.
eBay (India) - is a wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based internet marketplace major eBay Inc.
When asked about the same to, eBay India director (marketing and operations) Kashyap Vadapalli said, "eBay feels taking a mobile phone route will enable greater success in India as the number of mobile phone subscribers is 10 times that of internet users. Since there are only 45-50 million internet users in India and there is poor broadband connectivity, these are impediments for online shopping. That way, mobile phone has a far wider reach."
eBay is thinking of various interesting ways to launch its mobile platform, like - sms-based, application which will be bundled with handsets or download-able, or as a WAP platform.
