Emily Del Greco named GroupM’s Global COO amid latest restructure
GroupM, WPP’s media investment powerhouse, has announced a significant leadership overhaul, signaling its commitment to becoming a more centralized and cohesive organization. This shift involves the removal of global CEO roles across its flagship agencies—EssenceMediacom, Mindshare, and Wavemaker—aligning with GroupM Global CEO Brian Lesser’s vision of a unified entity.
Lesser, who returned to GroupM in September after his earlier tenure as CEO from 2015 to 2017, has been vocal about transforming the company from a "collection of companies" into a streamlined global operation. The leadership restructuring marks a pivotal step in this evolution.
Key Appointments and Role Changes
Emily Del Greco has been named GroupM’s Global Chief Operating Officer, effective next month. A former McKinsey & Company partner specializing in commerce media and advertising, Greco’s expertise is expected to bolster the group’s operational efficiency and global integration efforts.
Other key leadership transitions include:
Adam Gerhart, previously CEO of Mindshare, stepping into the role of Global Chief Client Officer, where he will oversee client engagement across all GroupM agencies.
Toby Jenner, former Wavemaker CEO, now serving as Global Chief Business Officer, focusing on global growth and collaboration with other WPP entities.
Mark Patterson, GroupM’s former COO, taking on the title of Global President of Markets and Business Operations, with a focus on accelerating growth in regions like APAC and LATAM and leading investment and sports initiatives.
Strategic Vision
This restructuring is seen as a cornerstone of GroupM’s broader strategy to adapt to the complexities of the modern media and advertising landscape. By unifying leadership and leveraging the expertise of its senior executives, GroupM aims to enhance client offerings, streamline operations, and foster deeper integration across its global network.
The changes, effective immediately, underline GroupM’s ambition to not only maintain but strengthen its position as a leader in the media and advertising industry amidst increasing competition and a rapidly evolving market.
