Eros Media’s strategy to re-release old iconic hits pays big dividends
When it released in 2011, Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Rockstar’, directed by Imtiaz Ali, received much critical acclaim for Ranbir’s angst ridden performance as well as its music and was a massive hit. Re-released recently, ‘Rockstar’ once again won over the audiences, especially youngsters, who had missed out on watching this film on the big screen in 2011.
This week, Soham Shan’s horror movie, ‘Tumbbad’, was re-released, which saw enthusiastic response from movie-goers. Originally released in 2018, the film directed by Rahi Anil Barve was hugely praised for its stunning visuals and unusual story plot. ‘Tumbbad’ garnered an equally positive response from the audience in its re-release.
Both the films were re-released by Eros Media World.
Citing the reason for re-releasing these films, Eros Media World stated that these films are some of Bollywood’s most iconic films. “These timeless classics are not just movies; they are an integral part of our art, culture and history, resonating with audiences across generations. Our decision to bring these beloved films back to the big screen is rooted in our commitment to preserving and celebrating the legacy of Indian cinema,” Eros said.
It further added, “It’s a joy to see these masterpieces reaching new audiences, while giving long-time fans the opportunity to relive their favourite cinematic moments.”
Eros went on to thank everyone involved in making this possible, especially its creative, studio, and commercial teams, the committed distribution partners, and most of all, its audiences for their unwavering love and support. “Let’s continue to honour the stories and art that unite us all. And remember, these are short window theatrical releases,” it added.
The next big re-release planned by Eros is another critical and commercially hit movie, ‘Omkara’. Originally released in 2006, ‘Omkara’ is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic ‘Othello’. The film stars Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan giving a fantastic performance as Langda Tyagi. Vishal Bhardwaj has co-written and directed the film.
