FE-EVI green business awards on its way!

The FE EVI Green Business Survey & Leadership Awards 2009-10 event is scheduled to be held on World Environment Day, June 5, in New Delhi.

The event is being organized jointly by The Financial Express and Emergent Ventures India, a climate change & sustainable development advisory firm, along with knowledge partner Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.

In a first of its kind, the FE EVI Green Business Leadership Awards will recognize top three companies in each of the energy-intensive sectors like cement, chemicals & fertilizers, iron & steel, metals & mining, oil & gas, paper & pulp, power, banking, and IT/ITES for their initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The winners have been selected based on the ranking of the findings of face-to-face interviews with CXOs or senior executives of 80 companies across sectors. The interviews were conducted with the help of a quantitative structured questionnaire.

Vinod Kala, Managing Director of Emergent Ventures India says, "FE EVI survey is an important initiative to capture Indian Industry's commitment to Climate Change Mitigation. Climate Change as a significant business opportunity and risk, as well as a larger issue of the survival of our planet is slowly finding its way into business strategies. The awards are being given to Leaders for pioneering work in their sectors. EVI hopes that the Indian Industry targets global leadership in this crucial area of transformation in the 21st Century and FE-EVI survey becomes an important tool to benchmark and inspire such transformation".

Keeping in view both the latest climate change discourse and sector-specific issues, the questions focused on climate change knowledge of companies, recognition of the drivers that act as triggers to undertake climate change mitigation initiatives, emission accounting, achievements in climate change management and disclosures followed by sector-specific questions.

The ranking framework for assessing responses to the questionnaire was drawn up by experts from the Indian School of Business (Gireesh Shrimali), Clinton Foundation (Pradeep Nair), McKinsey (Rajat Gupta), Bureau of Energy Efficiency (Ajay Mathur), Cleantech (Razvan Maximiuc), E&Y (Sujeet Kishen), CII (Bobby Mathew), and IFMR (David Fuente).
