Google EMEA President Matt Brittin departs after 18 years
Matt Brittin, Google's President of Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), announced his departure from the company after 18 years. He will step down at the beginning of 2025 to take a year-long career break and spend time with his family.
Brittin has spent a decade overseeing Google's operations across the EMEA region. He joined the company in 2007 as Managing Director for the UK and Ireland, at a time when online penetration was significantly lower. After serving as Vice President of Northern and Central Europe, he was appointed to his current role.
Under Brittin's leadership, EMEA has grown to represent approximately one-third of Google's global revenue. He expressed his gratitude to the teams and leaders who have contributed to the region's success.
Brittin also highlighted the groundbreaking work being done by Google DeepMind in London, including the Nobel Prize-winning AlphaFold project, which has accelerated research across various scientific fields. He emphasized the potential of AI to revolutionize areas such as disease diagnosis, climate change, education, and economic opportunities.
