Grand success of "A Double treat" by Kader Khan Two entralling playes written by Kader Khan and Directed by Shah Nawaz Khan & Sarfraz Khan
The third performance of Kader Khan and his sons Sarfraz and Shah Nawaz Khan’s plays under their home banner “Kal Ke Kalakar international” was a super housefull success. The two one act plays both written by the Mr. Kader Khan, and starring and directed by his sons respectively; Shah Nawaz Khan and Sarfraz Khan. It is worth noting that Kader Sahab himself was discovered by none other than the legenday Dilip Kumar while acting in a play for the college he taught in. Shah Nawaz and Sarfaraz too have been active in the theatre circuit, acting in and directing plays like ‘Badi Der Ki Meherbaan Aate Aate’ , ‘Taash ke Patte’ and ‘Best of Luck’. At each venue, the play was housefull with a lot of celebrity’s that showed up too. On 27th April at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan(Girgaum Chowpatty), Jackie Shroff also came to bless the young budding actor/directors Sarfraz and Shah Nawaz for the grand success of their show and stayed through out the play and bless all of the cast and crew behiund the stage.
‘Hamare Bhi Hain Meherbaan Kaise Kaise’, directed by Shah Nawaz Khan , is a political satire set in a corporaters meeting which resembles a mantralay. On the other hand, ‘Local Train’, directed by Sarfraz Khan, is a comedy set in a local train presenting a milieu of our metropolis Mumbai.
Mr. Kader Khan quoted: “Both the plays depict the life and struggles of the common man. Wether it is commuting to work in the local train,bus or road; or the fact that he does not have a say in political matters.That is in general the struggle he goes through every day as he works hard to make a living.”
Says Shah Nawaz , “Recreating a play that my father wrote over 35 years ago and reimagining the characters to fit todays modern day life was an immense challenge but a great joy at the same time.”
Sarfraz adds, “The challenge in a comedy is in capturing the moods of the characters in different situations and that has been the best part about working on this play for me as a director.”
Both plays were 60 minutes each and part of a single show, with an intermission of 20 mins.
The shows ran at Khar Gymkhana, Rangsharda Auditorium (Bandra) and Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan(Girgaum Chowpatty)
