HISTORY TV18 to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela with 'Miracle Rising: South Africa'

"It is not the kings and generals that make history but the masses of the people, the workers, the peasants, the doctors, the clergy." This quote by Nelson Mandela, one of the world’s greatest revolutionaries, has been critical in this man’s role in shaping the history of South Africa. HISTORY TV18 narrates the story of South Africa’s political transformation, under the leadership by this great icon with “Miracle Rising: South Africa”, airing tonight, Friday, 6th December at 9:00 pm.

This thought provoking documentary focuses on the visionary leadership and the compassion that were critical in the making of this icon. Offering valuable lessons in peace-making, the guidance given by this anti-apartheid revolutionary brought about transition of the nationalist regime to a system of one-person, one‐vote. From Nelson Mandela’s decision to learn Afrikaans while in prison, to the amnesty hearings of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission, it explores the difficult decisions that were taken enabling enemies to achieve peace.

MIRACLE RISING: SOUTH AFRICA is a moving testament to the choices of people, both ordinary and iconic, where the human capacity to find compassion enabled a nation to avoid civil war and reach forgiveness for the greater good. Told through simple, intimate portraits of key players, it weaves an epic story of a nation into an intimate history of men and women determined to change the country for the best for all who live there.
