I&B says no to new channels

The information and broadcasting ministry is in no mood to give approval to new channels. As the ministry has stopped considering applications to broadcast new television channels.

As published on its website, the ministry, which decides the media policy, has stopped accepting applications to uplink television channels from India and to down-link channels into the country.

According to the media reports, the industry experts say that the government has taken this step to regularise the media business and to avoid the non-serious candidates.

Government's this move has caused an uproar in the industry.
