India Box Office sees strong February 2025, Boosted by "Chhaava"

The Indian box office continued its strong performance in February 2025, grossing ₹1,245 crore, according to a report by Ormax Media. This momentum follows a robust start to the year in January 2025.

The cumulative box office for January-February 2025 reached ₹2,264 crore, a 39% increase compared to the same period in 2024. February 2025 has also been the highest-grossing February post-pandemic.

Hindi film "Chhaava" emerged as the top film of the month, contributing more than 50% of February's total box office revenue. Specifically, "Chhaava" grossed over ₹650 crore, becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time. The Hindi version of "Chhaava" contributed 53% of the month's box office.
Other notable films in the top 10 for February 2025 include the Tamil film "Dragon," which crossed the ₹100 crore mark, grossing ₹122 crore. "Vidaamuyarchi" also performed well, grossing ₹96 crore.
Re-releases continued to be a significant trend, with "Sanam Teri Kasam" and "Interstellar" securing spots in the top 10 highest-grossing films of the month. "Sanam Teri Kasam" (re-release) grossed ₹40 crore and "Interstellar" (re-release) grossed ₹28 crore.
In terms of language share for January-February 2025, Hindi films have jumped to 45%, compared to 40% for the calendar year 2024, largely due to the performance of "Chhaava." Telugu films hold a 26% share, and Tamil films have a 15% share.
The report clarifies that the numbers are based on Gross Box Office collections, a unified measure used across different language industries. For films released in multiple languages, collections are added up across languages to arrive at the film's Gross Box Office at an all-India level.
It's also important to note that some films may still be running in theaters at the time of the report’s publication, and therefore, box office numbers are estimated and subject to change in future reports.
