The Ramsinghani brothers, popularly known as Ramsay brothers, can be said to be the pioneers of horror films in Bollywood. The seven brothers ruled the roost with their genre of low-budget horror and sleaze fest during the 70’s and 80’s.
Ramsay Brothers got their first blockbuster in the film ‘Do Gaz Zameen Ke Neeche’ (1972), which was said to be made on a budget of just Rs 3.5 lakh, but attracted the audience and went on to become a huge hit crossing Rs 40 lakh in earnings. Post that the went on to make many successful horror films like ‘Veerana’, ‘Purana Mandir’, ‘Purani Haveli’, ‘Darwaza’, ‘Saboot’, and many others. They also made a famous show on Zee TV, called ‘Zee Horror Show’.
Recently, one of the brothers Gangu Ramsay, passed away at the age of 83 years.
It is now learnt that producer Priti Sinha has announced that she is planning to make a film or a series based on the life of Ramsay brothers. While speaking to a leading publication, Priti revealed that she will be co-producing this project along with Ajay Devgn. The makers were initially planning to make a series on them, as they are considered to be pioneers of the horror genre in India. However, later they thought it would be an ideal story to be seen on the big screen. Priti and Ajay are yet to finalise the cast and crew, but writer Ritesh Shah has reportedly started developing a story and the biopic is expected to be titled ‘The Ramsay biopic’.
Although horror films of Ramsay brothers were majorly considered as sex-horror stories, the producer of this film believes that the Ramsays have a humourous side to them, which they will be trying to tap that in their biopic.
