India’s ‘Shakti’ wins over Grammys 2024

Indian fusion band, ‘Shakti’, was declared winner in the Best Global Music Album category at the 66th Grammy Awards 2024, held in Los Angeles last night. Shakti consists of Shankar Mahadevan, Ustad Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin, V Selvaganesh, and Ganesh Rajagopalan. Other artistes competing in this category included:

Susana Baca- Epifanías

Bokanté – History

Burna Boy – I Told Them…

Davido – Timeless

Meanwhile, Ustad Zakir Hussain also won in two other categories.

Best Contemporary Instrumental Album – ‘As We Speak’ -  Béla Fleck, Zakir Hussain, Edgar Meyer ft. Rakesh Chaurasia

Best Global Music Performance – ‘Pashto’ - Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer & Zakir Hussain ft. Rakesh Chaurasia

Also competing in the Best Global Music Performance category was ‘Abundance In Millets’ featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Falu and Gaurav Shah.
