Indian Gov warns Facebook, Youtube to enforce rules to deter deepfakes

The Indian government has reportedly warned social media giants like Facebook and YouTube to consistently inform users about local laws prohibiting the dissemination of deepfakes, obscene content, and misinformation. IT minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasized the need for companies to update usage terms in line with 2022 regulations. The government's "non-negotiable" demand includes urging platforms to remind users regularly, either upon login or through notifications, about the prohibition of such content. The move reflects the growing global concern over deepfakes, with India actively working on regulations to address the issue. All platforms are said to have agreed to align their content guidelines with government rules.
