IndiGo takes on Mahindra: A trademark showdown
IndiGo Airlines, India's largest low-cost carrier, has initiated legal action against Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited over the use of the '6E' moniker in the latter's newly launched electric vehicle, the BE 6E.
IndiGo, known for its distinctive '6E' branding, argues that Mahindra's use of '6E' in its vehicle name could potentially confuse consumers and dilute its well-established trademark. The airline has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit in the Delhi High Court.
Mahindra's Stance
Mahindra, on the other hand, maintains that the 'BE 6E' trademark is distinct from IndiGo's '6E' and that there's no risk of confusion. The automaker emphasizes that the full trademark is 'BE 6E', not just '6E', and that it belongs to a different product category (vehicles) than IndiGo's services.
The Legal Battle
The case was initially presented before Justice Amit Bansal, but the judge recused himself. The next hearing is scheduled for December 9, 2024. Both parties are currently in discussions to find an amicable solution, but the outcome of the legal battle will determine whether Mahindra can continue to use the '6E' branding for its electric vehicles.
