Jab They Met: A love story of politics, stardom, and serendipity
In a candid and delightful interaction on Aap Ki Adalat with Rajat Sharma, AAP MP Raghav Chadha and Bollywood star Parineeti Chopra shared the heartwarming tale of their journey from strangers to soulmates. The power couple, in their first-ever joint interview since their star-studded Udaipur wedding last year, opened up about their unconventional love story, secret rendezvous, and the serendipitous circumstances that brought them together.
A Meeting of Worlds
The duo first crossed paths in London during an awards ceremony. Parineeti, there to receive an Outstanding Achiever Award in Entertainment, and Raghav, recognized for Politics and Governance, struck up a conversation after an introduction sparked by Parineeti’s brother Shivang, who was a fan of the MP.
"I went up to him and said, 'Hello, my brothers are big fans of you,'" Parineeti recalled with a smile. Raghav’s charming reply, "Why not meet tomorrow?" marked the beginning of their story.
From Friendship to Forever
The next day’s meeting was far from a romantic date—it involved a table of 10 to 12 people, including their managers. Yet, amidst the crowd, Parineeti found herself captivated by Raghav’s genuine demeanor. “He got up, brought a plate full of food, and started eating,” she said, laughing. “In that moment, I thought, ‘This is the man I’m going to marry.’”
Unbeknownst to Raghav, Parineeti later Googled him to learn everything she could, from his age to his political achievements, jokingly declaring, “Byah toh main inhi se karungi!”
Raghav’s wit shone as he quipped, "Nek kaam mein deri kaisi?" The two began meeting regularly, often in secret, with memorable encounters at farms, friends’ gardens, and even gurudwaras.
A Filmy Wedding
Reflecting on their glittering Udaipur wedding, Raghav clarified that the event wasn’t as extravagant as rumored. "We booked 40 to 50 rooms in a five-star hotel, not seven-star, and no room cost ₹10 lakh," he said. Parineeti added, "Style comes from taste, not money."
Raghav revealed his attire was designed by his maternal uncle, a fashion designer, underscoring the personal touches that defined their nuptials.
Balancing Love and Politics
The couple addressed controversies surrounding Raghav’s absence during Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest and accusations of him being Punjab’s “remote control.” Raghav, in his characteristic style, refuted the claims with grace, emphasizing his responsibilities and bond with Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. "I am a Super Sewadar of Punjab, not a Super CM," he declared.
