James Cameron joins StabilityAI Board to innovate special effects
Hollywood film director James Cameron has joined the board of StabilityAI, four decades after the release of *The Terminator*. His focus will be on how this technology can enhance special effects in filmmaking.
“I’ve spent my career seeking out emerging technologies that push the very boundaries of what’s possible, all in the service of telling incredible stories,” said Cameron.
StabilityAI is renowned for creating Stable Diffusion, a tool that generates images from user text prompts, and has now developed Stable Video Diffusion, which operates similarly.
Advocates of AI video generation believe it will allow artists to rapidly produce complex digital effects. Cameron has previously mentioned utilizing AI to assist with the special effects for the 2022 sequel *Avatar: The Way of Water*, which ranks as the third-highest grossing film of all time.
In the realm of video generation, OpenAI’s competitor, Sora, is the most notable name.
