Jo jeeta wahi Sikandar: Jyoti Deshpande on ‘Stree 2’s Box Office clash
Jyoti Deshpande, President of Media and Content Business at Jio Studios, was recently present at the trailer launch of their upcoming film, ‘Stree 2’, which is also produced by Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films. The sequel to the successful horror-comedy ‘Stree’ is set to release on August 15, which is a long holiday weekend. Many filmmakers vie for these important dates and it is often seen that these dates are blocked by big stars and producers in advance. But they still end up having a clash at the box office with other big films. This time around too apart from ‘Stree 2’, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Khel Khel Mein’ and John Abraham’s ‘Vedaa’ are set to release on Independence Day.
When asked about the box office clash, Jyoti explained, “Whenever a film is ready to clash that means we are coming with a feeling that ‘jo jeeta wahi Sikandar’. So, we are super confident. On a lighter note, we have only 52 weeks in a year, we don’t release films during shradh period, when the IPL is on, during Ramzan month, when a film of ‘Khan’ is releasing or if a big South film is releasing. Thus, we are left with only 20 weeks, so we have to release our film somewhere. It is the law of survival of the fittest. There are so many films that are made during the year not just in Hindi, but also Marathi, Punjabi and other languages. We are very confident of our content. If we can back the product on the holiday weekend, at least two or three films can come together. It is not like Mr Bachchan’s KBC’s ‘Fastest Finger First’ or putting a handkerchief to claim the dates.”
Meanwhile, ‘Khel Khel Mein’, which also features Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Fardeen Khan and others, might shift their release date to avoid a box office clash with the other two films. But there is no official confirmation on it.
