Maddock Films and TVF: Dominating 2024 with Hits
2024 has truly been a dynamic year for entertainment. While mass cinema captivated audiences, conceptual and thoughtful films also ruled both hearts and the box office. In this race, where numerous players aimed to win over the audience, Maddock Films and TVF (The Viral Fever) stood out as two prominent entities that consistently delivered content that resonated deeply with viewers. Instead of following trends, they brought films and web series that were highly relatable and enjoyable. Their are certain factors that makes these production houses significant.
1) Unconventional Content: Everything produced by Maddock and TVF this year defied conventional massy norms and broke the rulebook of content. TVF focused on lighthearted and inspirational stories, such as Panchayat S3 and Gullak S4, in a web content space often dominated by dark and gritty themes like Sacred Games or Mirzapur. Meanwhile, Maddock Films revitalized the horror genre, which had struggled for years, with bold choices like Munjya and Stree 2. This daring approach and unwavering commitment to fresh narratives made all the difference.
2) Building Universes Slow & Study: Both content houses invested deeply and put their conviction into their content beyond just one release. Panchayat has been in the making for over four years, evolving from a modest series to becoming the biggest Indian content on the web. Similarly, Maddock’s horror universe, which began with the release of Stree in 2018 as a small film, has now grown into a massive horror-comedy universe. They deserve full credit for establishing the foundation of this genre, which has become a defining highlight of the year.
3) Reliance on Good Script & Writing over everything else: While TVF & Maddock both didn’t had plethora of resources, both relied on a good script and screenplay. They didn’t had luxury of getting biggest of stars, or had best technicians or directors. They made content against all odds. While TVF proved that no one understands the audience better than they do, Maddock deserve full credit for establishing the core of the horror-comedy universe, which became a defining genre of the year.
4) Experimenting Beyond their domain of success: While Maddock found success in the horror-comedy genre, this didn’t stop them from experimenting. This year, they ventured into a comedy film featuring a robot as one of the protagonists. Similarly, TVF isn’t hesitant to experiment, creating content across various genres like Kota Factory and Gullak, instead of merely replicating Panchayat.
