State Minister Uday Samant announced in the Legislative Assembly on July 1 that the Maharashtra government is preparing to introduce a new policy on hoardings in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

This announcement comes nearly two months after a tragic incident on May 13, when an illegal hoarding collapse in Ghatkopar, Mumbai resulted in 17 deaths and over 75 injuries.

Minister Samant stated that a policy will be introduced once the code of conduct for the legislative council elections concludes after the results are declared for the graduates and teachers constituencies.

Additionally, it was noted that a committee led by former Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Dilip Bhosle is investigating the hoarding collapse in Ghatkopar.

The minister also highlighted that out of 1,025 hoardings in Mumbai, 306 are situated on railway land.
