Malappuram remarks in Kerala CM's Interview spark apology from The Hindu
An apology has been issued by the Hindu newspaper over contentious remarks that have been attributed to Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala CM, in a published interview.
The remarks, which drew criticism, involved the Malappuram district being linked to anti-national activities and gold smuggling. However, The Hindu clarified that these comments were included after a representative from the PR agency, which facilitated the interview, requested their addition. The CM’s office quickly pointed out that no such remarks or regional references were made during the actual interview.
The Hindu stated that their journalist conducted the interview at Kerala House on September 29, but after the interview, the PR agency's representatives asked for the inclusion of additional content related to gold smuggling. This led to widespread criticism, particularly from Muslim organizations, and calls for the CM's resignation.
The controversy further deepened when it was clarified that this PR agency does not officially represent Pinarayi Vijayan and had no role in providing content for the interview.
