Maruti Suzuki names Sunil Kakkar as Director of Corporate Planning

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has announced a key leadership change, appointing Sunil Kakkar as Additional Director and Whole-time Director, designated as Director (Corporate Planning). Effective April 1, 2025, Kakkar will assume this role for a three-year term, steering the company's long-term strategic vision.  

The appointment was approved by MSIL's Board of Directors at their recent meeting. In his new role, Kakkar will be instrumental in guiding the company's strategic direction, strengthening localization efforts, and preparing Maruti Suzuki for future industry challenges.  
 
Kakkar brings over three decades of experience to the role, having served in various leadership positions at Maruti Suzuki. Currently, he heads the Corporate Planning division as Senior Executive Officer, where he oversees strategic growth initiatives, organizational restructuring, and long-term business planning.  
 
Prior to his current role, Kakkar led the Supply Chain vertical and served as the Plant Head at the company's Gurgaon production facility. He has been instrumental in establishing strategic partnerships and joint ventures with key players in areas like automated manual transmission (AMT) technology, plastic fuel tanks, and high-tensile sheet metal components.  
 
Kakkar holds an engineering degree from IIT Kanpur and an MBA from the Asian Institute of Technology, where he was a gold medalist.  
 
In a related move, the Board has re-designated Kenichiro Toyofuku from Director (Corporate Planning) to Director (Sustainability), effective April 1, 2025.
