When you first started Biba, did you have a personal vision for how the brand would align with your own lifestyle and values? How has that vision evolved over time?

When I started BIBA, my vision was simple yet personal—to create comfortable, stylish, and affordable ethnic wear for women, inspired by my love for traditional Indian craftsmanship. This aligned with my values of celebrating our rich heritage while ensuring practicality for everyday wear. Over time, as BIBA grew, this vision evolved to embrace modern aesthetics, inclusivity, and sustainability. While the foundation remains rooted in tradition, we’ve adapted to meet the changing needs and aspirations of women today, ensuring the brand remains relevant across generations.

As someone who has been at the forefront of Indian fashion for decades, how do you think the relationship between fashion and personal identity has changed for individuals in India?

Fashion in India has become an extension of personal identity rather than just a reflection of cultural norms. Earlier, people often dressed according to societal expectations or occasions. Today, fashion is more about self-expression—whether it’s embracing fusion styles, prioritizing comfort, or making conscious, sustainable choices. This shift excites me because it aligns with BIBA’s ethos of offering versatile pieces that allow women to express themselves authentically while staying connected to their roots.

How do you personally stay inspired to create? Do you have any rituals or habits that help you stay creatively motivated and connected to your roots?

My inspiration comes from observing the world around me—whether it’s the vibrant colors of a local bazaar, the intricate details of traditional crafts, or the evolving preferences of modern women. I also find creativity in conversations, travel, and reflecting on India’s diverse cultural heritage.

Looking back, what were some of the defining moments or turning points in your personal life that influenced your journey with Biba?

Taking a loan of ₹8,000 to start BIBA was a defining moment—it was a leap of faith driven by my passion for creating something meaningful. At the time, every rupee mattered, and the responsibility of making the most of that money taught me the value of resilience, resourcefulness, and taking calculated risks.

An early experience that stayed with me was when a customer returned a product. It was a humbling moment, but it also became a turning point—it taught me the importance of listening to feedback and striving for constant improvement. I realized then that the customer's voice would always guide us, and this philosophy has stayed at the heart of BIBA ever since.

How do you stay connected with the younger generation of fashion consumers? What trends or values do you feel particularly resonate with you and Biba?

While it’s true that staying connected with younger consumers is essential in today’s evolving fashion landscape, I ensure this by actively engaging with my team, listening to customer feedback, and observing emerging trends. The younger generation deeply values sustainability, individuality, and comfort—principles that align seamlessly with BIBA’s philosophy. By keeping an eye on trends and values that resonate with today’s consumers, we continue to balance innovation with the timeless elegance BIBA is known for.

In your experience, how has the concept of 'comfort' in fashion evolved, and how do you integrate this into your designs for modern women?

Comfort has transitioned from being solely about fabric and fit to a holistic idea that encompasses confidence, functionality, and ease of movement. For BIBA, this means using breathable fabrics, incorporating modern silhouettes, and ensuring our designs can be worn effortlessly for various occasions, from work to celebrations.

As someone who has successfully combined tradition with modernity, what does "timeless fashion" mean to you personally, and how do you embody that in your daily life?

Timeless fashion, to me, is about creating designs that go beyond fleeting trends, holding both emotional and cultural significance. It’s about pieces that tell a story, evoke a sense of heritage, and can be cherished for years to come. At BIBA, we strive to achieve this balance by blending traditional craftsmanship with modern silhouettes—creating outfits that are versatile, elegant, and relevant across generations. In my daily life, I embody this philosophy by pairing classic ethnic pieces with contemporary styles, showcasing how tradition and modernity can coexist beautifully and effortlessly.

What personal values do you consider essential in your life and in your work, and how do they reflect in the culture of Biba?

Integrity, authenticity, and inclusivity are values I hold dear. These guide every decision I make, from ensuring ethical sourcing to fostering a workplace culture that empowers women. At BIBA, these values translate into creating designs that celebrate diversity and remain true to our commitment to quality and innovation.

As a woman who has navigated both the fashion and entrepreneurial worlds, how have your personal experiences shaped the way you approach leadership and mentorship for others?

My journey has taught me that empathy, resilience, and authenticity are at the heart of strong leadership. I approach mentorship by sharing my experiences, encouraging others—especially women—to see challenges as opportunities for growth and to stay true to their vision. Having navigated both the fashion and entrepreneurial worlds, I understand the importance of creating an environment where women feel empowered to lead, excel, and make their mark. At BIBA, this philosophy is reflected in our efforts to nurture talent, foster confidence, and provide opportunities for growth and leadership.

What part of your daily routine brings you the most joy and why? How do you integrate self-care and balance into a busy life?

Mornings are my favorite part of the day—it’s when I take time to reflect, sketch, and plan. It’s a quiet, creative space that energizes me. Self-care for me is about simple joys—spending time with family, staying active, and maintaining a balance between work and personal life. It’s this balance that fuels my passion and keeps me grounded.
