Meta appoints Joel Kaplan as Global Policy Head, replacing Nick Clegg

Meta has announced the appointment of Joel Kaplan as its new global head of policy, replacing Nick Clegg, who is stepping down after seven years in the role. Kaplan, currently the company’s vice president of policy, will take over as Clegg transitions out over the next few months.

Kaplan, a former White House deputy chief of staff under George W. Bush, joined Meta in 2011. His appointment comes as Meta continues to navigate evolving societal and political expectations around technology.

Nick Clegg, who joined Meta in 2018 and played a key role in shaping the company’s policies after the Cambridge Analytica scandal, said the decision to leave the company was the "right time." He praised Kaplan as the "right person for the right job at the right time" to lead Meta’s policy strategy moving forward.

In a related move, Kevin Martin, former Republican chair of the Federal Communications Commission, will replace Kaplan as vice president of global policy.
