Meta revenue from click-to-message ads in India doubles YOY
During an analyst call on October 26, 2023, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, announced that its revenue from Click-to-Message ads in India has experienced a year-over-year doubling, underscoring the substantial growth potential of business messaging for the social media behemoth.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO, Meta, also noted that in India, more than 60 per cent of WhatsApp users engage with business app accounts on a weekly basis. Nevertheless, he refrained from providing specific figures regarding the revenue generated from these advertisements or the precise number of users interacting with business accounts in the country.
With over 500 million users, India stands as the largest market for WhatsApp. In February 2023, Zuckerberg previously stated that Click-to-Message ads had achieved a global revenue run rate of $10 billion. Moneycontrol had previously reported that the app was projected to attain $1 billion in revenue in India by the conclusion of 2023.
During the earnings conference call on October 26, Zuckerberg expressed his belief that business messaging will emerge as the next significant pillar for the company's operations, with more than 600 million daily conversations occurring between individuals and businesses across their platforms.
Over the past year, Meta has made substantial efforts to monetise its prominent acquisition, WhatsApp, by intensifying its business-oriented offerings, and India has played a pivotal role in fueling this growth.
