Milaap’s launches video campaign for paediatric cancer patients this Friendship Day

Milaap, one of India’s largest crowdfunding platforms, has launched a heartwarming video campaign, #MakeKindnessAHabit, to mark the celebration of Friendship’s Day which falls on Sunday, August 6th. The video campaign aims to revive the bygone concept of a pen-pal amongst children and promotes kindness and friendship. As part of this initiative, a group of underprivileged children from Need Base India wrote heartfelt letters addressed to young cancer patients at Narayana Hospital in Bangalore, with the intent to bring surprise, joy, and support to their lives during their challenging journey.

Anoj Viswanathan - President and Co-Founder, Milaap, said, “With this initiative, we are reviving the old concept of pen-friends where letters used to be exchanged among children far and beyond, sharing their dreams, hopes and wishes with complete strangers. Cancer warriors, especially children, go through a lot, both physically and emotionally. The letters instantly brightened up the children’s faces and gave them the comfort and assurance that there are family and friends to help them sail through their tough journey to recovery.”

To celebrate this global occasion, Milaap organised a special letter writing session in collaboration with Daakroom for children from the NGO, where they expressed their thoughts and wishes through colourful letters and cards dedicated to the young cancer warriors. The heartwarming video also captures the children posting their letters in a traditional red mailbox, which were then delivered to the doorstep of the hospital. Along with the letters, the young cancer patients received surprise bags filled with thoughtful goodies and friendship bands to strengthen their bond with their newfound friends.

Dr. Sunil Bhatt, Director and clinical lead of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation, Narayana Health City,  Narayan Hospitals said, “We look after children with blood disorders, cancers and transplants. These children are suffering from life-threatening disorders. I am very glad to have both  Milaap and Daakroom here today, to engage with us. I am glad that our children had this chance and experience today, and I could see the joy in their faces as they read these letters from unknown children and people.”

Daakroom is an innovative letter writing carnival that aims to reintroduce the joy of letter writing to children and audiences alike, through engaging competitions, events and workshops. Need Base India, on the other hand, is non-profit organisation based in Bangalore, Karnataka, nurturing the potential of underprivileged children and strives to create a brighter future for them and their communities.

Milaap is playing a crucial role in helping individuals and families facing medical emergencies, especially when dealing with the financial burden of cancer treatment and long-term care. It is a trusted name in the crowdfunding industry and has enabled users, donors, and beneficiaries alike.
