Mobile Global Esports’ Kim Meltzer lays bare what lies at the heart of eSports

In an interesting keynote address at GAMEXX Summit and Awards 2023, Kim Meltzer, Chief Gaming Officer, Mobile Global Esports, and CEO, Destination Esports, who is also popularly known as ‘Esports Mom’, shared her incredible journey spanning 13 years in the video game and eSports industry. She illuminated the essence of eSports, emphasising on the paramount importance of putting gamers first.

Kim Meltzer’s career began in hotels and events, but her life took a thrilling turn in 2010, when she organised an extraordinary event for Call of Duty Black Ops One. This groundbreaking experience involved transporting press personnel via Sikorsky helicopters to witness the game’s unveiling in a lifelike hangar setting.

Reflecting on her journey, Meltzer highlighted the evolution of video games from their early days in the ‘70s to today’s lifelike and AI-driven virtual experiences. She expressed her privilege in nurturing over a thousand professional players across eight gaming titles and collaborating with global brands, developers, publishers, and gamers.

According to Meltzer, “Esports is all about the event, where gamers, developers, and fans come together.” Stressing on providing the perfect gaming experience, she said, “The gamer’s first experience will decide if the fan is going to continue to be a part of that community. You will always have someone to go to that’s going to always look forward to the next experience, the next activation, the next live event.”

“Remember, it’s about the gamers, their experiences, and the thrill of live events,” she emphasised. Adding further, Meltzer said that the heart of eSports lies in its community, and the growth depends on understanding and satisfying gamers’ desires. She urged everyone to prioritise fan enjoyment, maintain a strong community spirit, and pay attention to gamers’ feedback.

In her closing remarks, Meltzer underscored the significance of eSports and video gaming in the modern tech landscape, urging developers, publishers, and Indie game creators to persist and innovate. She also called for responsible AI integration, emphasising on the need to keep the essence of gaming soulful.
