More women need to lead professional fields to make workplaces safer: Ektaa Kapoor

Ektaa Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan have teamed up once again for their upcoming project – ‘The Buckingham Murders’, where Kareena is not only playing the role of a detective, but has also donned a producer’s hat for the first time. ‘The Buckingham Murders’ is directed by Hansal Mehta.

During the trailer launch of the film, Ektaa and Kareena were asked about the recent Hema Committee report that has shaken the Kerala Film industry. Actresses and film personalities from various industries have been voicing their opinions on women’s safety following the shocking exposures.

Ektaa said, “Women and their safety is not just a film industry issue, but it is any women’s workplace issue and we take this very seriously. You have to change the agency from men to women and equalise the agency. At a lot of places, we need more women on the top, at least running companies. For that, women, too, have to take an initiative.”

“Such reports (Hema Committee report) will continue to be released and we will read more about it, but there has to be a conscious effort to create a safe environment for women at any place of work. A big part of it will be when more women lead in the professional fields. They will then be in a position to empower other women in the workforce. I think it has to start to happen. However, there is still a long way to go,” Ektaa added.

Director Hansal Mehta stressed that men in the industry, too, should take up the responsibility of women’s safety at work place. He said, “The onus is on the men to take the initiative to ensure that this equality and safety is maintained. It’s about time we owned up and looked at safety in the eye.”
