MRS to conduct Champions League soccer in city

Mumbai Rush Soccer (MRS), the International partner of Rush Soccer, USA, announced ambitious plans to promote soccer at the grassroots level in 2013, among them the launch of the EPL Style franchise MRS Champions League involving 8 teams in the age group of Boys U-10, U-12, U-14, U-17 and Girld U-14 and U-17 from January 27 to March10, 2013.

This was announced by Tim Schulz, President & CEO, Rush Soccer, US at a press conference in the city on Wednesday along with Vinod Nalwade, Director Steadfast Football Club and Dennis Fernandes, Hon. CEO Mumbai Rush Soccer.

The MRS Champions League will be the culmination of three separate leagues to be conducted by Mumbai Rush Soccer, targeting children from different strata of life. The most talented players from these leagues will be short listed and picked to play in the Champions League over seven Sundays from January 27 to March 10.

The Champions League will not be about teams winning or losing, but the teams will be awarded points according to level of skills displayed by its players.

The first of the leagues was the MRS Archdiocesan School League, played from January 17 to 20. 500 Children from over 20 schools participated in the U-10, U12 & U-14 age categories. 130 players have been shortlisted from this league.
The MRS Municipal School League will be played from January 22, in which 160 children are expected to participate in the U-12 and U-14 age category.

This will be followed by the MRS Elite School League, targeting IB, ICSE, and CBSE schools. Teams from over16 schools are expected to participate in the U-10, U-12 and U-14 categories. The shortlisted players will undergo a camp from Jan 24 to 26 and Jan 27 to 29. Following these camps the most talented players will be picked to play in the NUMECH MRS Champions League.

The objective of MRS Champions League is to scout talented players from Mumbai and provide them with a platform to experiment and showcase their skill, as well as provide them with sufficient quality matches in a calendar year on par with international players of the same age.

Mumbai Rush Soccer (MRS) was launched in May 2012, in association with Steadfast Football Academy. The highlight of the tie up was to train Indian Coaches and offer promising players Scholarship to train free of cost in USA. Since then the MRS has trained 20 children, conducted camps for children in Goa, under Elvis Goes, USSF ‘A’ License coach and conducted coaches training programs in Goa, under Elvis Goes.

Besides launching the NUMECH MRS Champions League, Tim Schulz will conduct Certification course for the coaches, teaching the Rush Module to the coaches and children.
