Musk announces gold, gray and blue badges for Twitter accounts

Elon Musk revealed on Friday that the social media site would use distinctively colored badges to identify between accounts.
"Sorry for the delay, we're tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week," he tweeted.
In another tweet, he clarified that all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before the check activates.
"Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not), and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates," he tweeted.
Musk also shared that all verified individual accounts would have the same blue check, but a few would eventually be able to display a "secondary tiny logo showing they belong to an organization if verified as such by that organization."
After his take-over, Elon Musk implemented many disruptive measures, including the one that allowed users to pay for "verification" to get a blue badge, creating a lot of confusion. Musk proposed a subscription of $8 a month to allow users to obtain a blue tick, which was previously free but reserved for organisations and public figures in an attempt to avoid impersonation and misinformation.
Early in November, Musk launched his subscription service for the first time, but it failed miserably because many users paid with a blue tick, pretending to be famous people, organisations, or world leaders.
Responding to the backlash, Musk initially postponed the launch date to November 29, before delaying it once more. The feature will now launch on December 2, 2022.
Twitter currently depends on advertising for 90 percent of its revenue. According to the report, Musk said that he wants the users to pay for the subscription to diversify the revenue Twitter is generating.
Several major brands have withdrawn from advertising on the platform since Musk bought it, fearing that his promised relaxation of content moderation could expose their companies to being associated with objectionable content.
