My Schoolbag programme for underprivileged children hosted at Forum Value Mall

The ‘My Schoolbag’ programme was organized today for 200 underprivileged children at the Forum Value Mall, Whitefield. Two hundred children from Government Higher Secondary School in Gandhipura(funded by the Government of Karnataka) were invited to Forum Value Mall to enjoy the hands-on experience of shopping at the mall, buying footwear, stationery and other basic and school necessities etc.

The children were given a tour of the mall when they arrived in the afternoon. After they had a blast playing games at TimeZone, they were escorted in batches to most of the mall’s stores to enjoy a true mall-shopping experience, while later being treated to a sumptuous lunch at McDonald’s. Finally, Forum Value Mall presented them with school bags containing all the daily necessities which they had shopped for earlier, worth a total of Rs.1,75,000. This was made possible with funding from CapitaLand Hope Foundation, the philanthropic arm of CapitaLand.

At the end of the mall-shopping day, the overjoyed children created a deeply touching human formation in the shape of a red heart to express their hope for a better world where the needy and hungry do not exist.

‘My Schoolbag’ is CapitaMalls Asia’s signature annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, whereby schoolbags containing school and daily necessities are given to underprivileged children. For the first time, the programme has been extended to India, at Forum Value Mall, which is renowned for its community services.

Mr Kevin Chee, Country Head, India, CapitMalls Asia, said: “We are glad to be able to rollout CapitaMalls Asia’s ‘My Schoolbag’ in India for the first time this year, at Forum Value Mall, and touch the lives of the communities where our malls operate. Through this meaningful corporate social responsibility programme, we hope to give underprivileged children a headstart in getting an education and a better life.
