Negative roles are quite interesting: Shruti Bisht

Television actress Shruti Bisht started her acting career at the tender age of 8 with ‘Ek Nayi Chhoti Si Zindagi’. Since then, she has featured in many popular shows like ‘Hitler Didi’, ‘Baal Veer’, ‘Saath Nibhana Saathiya’, among many others. In Color’s new show, ‘Mishri’, she will be seen playing the title character. In an exclusive tete-a-tete with Adgully, Shruti Bisht talks about her role, the new show, her career, and more.

What is different about ‘Mishri’ that made you say yes to it?

It is because of my character, as well as because the story takes place in Mathura, one of my favourite places. I had visited Mathura when I was a little kid, and hence, have deep attachment with the place; so, I decided to do ‘Mishri’. Another reason was that I have worked with the same team in the past for a different show, so it was like working with family members.

How did you prepare for your role? Was it difficult?

I had to work on my language as my character has a typical touch of the local Mathura language. I had to practice a lot to get that dialect right. I am still working on it. Apart from that, I had to learn to ride a bike in one day and we shot at actual locations in Mathura, which was a bit difficult. However, with the help of my direction team I am performing better.

Normally, it is seen on television that a show starts on a different note, but go on to follow the same old route of the female lead getting married and the same family politics. Will ‘Mishri’ follow this formula?

I don’t think that will happen with our show. From the promos everyone is assuming that this boy and girl will eventually fall in love with each other and then two girls will fight to win the love of the boy. But let me assure you that it is not going to happen. ‘Mishri’ is a completely different story and once you watch the show, you will realise it. At this point I can tell you that the storyline is quite interesting.

Has working as a child artiste helped you get the work?

Yes, experience helps you a lot. But I am still learning a lot of things on the sets. What I believe is that there is no end to learning new things. Working as a child actor in the industry is definitely helping my acting career. I think every day is a new experience when you are on the sets and I want to learn more.

What kind of content do you watch on television personally?

I really enjoy watching rom-coms, which have sweet endings – nothing like what happens in reality and real love stories. However, I like villainous characters too, in fact I like such characters more than the main leads. Negative roles are quite interesting as they have a lot of mirch masala in them and I really enjoy watching them. As an actor also one gets to do many things.
