Netflix ban on password sharing in India comes into effect

Following a global crackdown announced in May this year, Netflix today (July 20, 2023) announced that it has ceased password sharing in India as well as other countries such as Indonesia, Kenya, Croatia, among others. Netflix further stated that only users who are part of the same household using the same internet connection will be able to access the single Netflix account.

In a statement issued, the streaming giant said, “Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are – at home, on the go, on holiday – and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices.”

Meanwhile, Netflix has rolled out ‘borrower’ or ‘shared’ accounts, wherein a user can add extra viewers for a higher price or transfer viewing profiles to new accounts.
