News Genre ad volumes see 5% rise in H1 2024: TAM Media

News Genre ad volumes saw 5% rise in Jan-Jun’24 compared to Jan-Jun’23, as per TAM Media’s report on Advertising on News Genre in the first half of 2024.

The Top 10 sectors together added 81% share of the ad volumes during Jan-Jun’24. ‘Food & Beverages’ was the leading Sector with 15% share of the News Genre ad volumes. ‘F&B’ displaced ‘Services’ to top the list of Sector on News channel genre during Jan-Jun’24. Building, Industrial & Land Materials/ Equipments, BFSI, Household Products, Education and Personal Accessories retained their 3rd, 7th, 8th , 9th and 10th positions, respectively, in Jan-Jun’24 compared to Jan-Jun’23. Personal Healthcare observed positive rank shift.

The Top 10 categories together added 27% share of the ad volumes in Jan-Jun’24. ‘Cement' led the News Genre categories during H1 2024. Categories – Cement, Toilet Soaps and Building Materials/ Systems in the Top 10 list witnessed positive rank shifts during Jan-Jun’24. Retail Outlets-Jewellers slid down to the 4th position in Jan-Jun’24 compared to top position in Jan-Jun’23.

The Top 10 Advertisers together added 21% share of the Ad Volumes during Jan-Jun’24. Reckitt Benckiser (India) & Hindustan Unilever retained their 1st and 2nd positions, respectively, during Jan-Jun’24 compared to Jan-Jun’23. Other than the Top 2, the next top 3 Advertisers also maintained their ranking in Jan-Jun’24 compared to Jan-Jun’23. Four out of the Top 10 Advertisers observed positive rank shifts. Advertisers on 7th, 9th and 10th positions were new entrants in the Top 10 list.

During Jan-Jun’24, total 6.1K+ brands were present on Television. The Top 10 Brands contributed 8% share of the Television ad volumes. ‘Ultratech Cement’ was the leading brand on News Genre during Jan-Jun’24. Three out of the Top 10 Brands were from Reckitt Benckiser (India).

Over 170+ Categories registered positive growth. In terms of growth % among the Top 10 Categories, Beauty Accessories/ Products witnessed the highest growth of 511X during Jan-Jun’24. ‘Cement’ category saw the highest increase in Ad secondages with growth of 41%.

During Jan-Jun’24, ‘Hindi News’ was the leading Subgenre for advertising with 19% share of ad volumes. Top 5 Channel Subgenres accounted for 56% share of the ad volumes during Jan-Jun’24.
