Newspaper sales highest in India

India has emerged one of the countries with highest sales of newspapers. The other countries are China and Japan, at 60 per cent in terms of circulation, are highest in the world.

World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers has brought out this finding at the ongoing 62nd World Newspaper Congress.

Even though the newspaper circulations are up by 1.3 per cent in 2009 and has risen by nine per cent in the past five years, the circulation in the US has declined to 14 per cent.

According to PwC, 2009 has been a terrible year for advertising in newspaper and the drop is over 20 per cent in North America, 19 per cent in Central and Eastern Europe besides 16 per cent in Western Europe. However, Asia Pacific region is predicted to see 11 per cent less revenues.
